DSW and the United Nations
DSW is the German partner of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. On behalf of the UNFPA, DSW annually releases the German version of the State of the World Population Report. In addition to that, DSW attends important UN conferences and meetings on family planning and reproductive health issues. In June 1999, DSW was awarded Special Consultative Status by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition: Meeting the Need
The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition is a global partnership of public, private, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) dedicated to ensuring that all people in low- and middle-income (LMI) countries can access and use affordable, high-quality supplies to ensure their better reproductive health.
The Coalition brings together diverse agencies and groups with critical roles in providing contraceptives and other reproductive health (RH) supplies. These include multilateral organizations, bilateral and private foundation donors, LMI country governments, civil society, and private-sector representatives. http://www.rhsupplies.org

A European Network - EuroNGOs
DSW is both an active member and has a seat on the Steering Committee of EuroNGOs, a network of European NGOs active in the field of sexual and reproductive health, population and development.
To support information exchange and joint campaigns and projects within this network, DSW manages a range of mailing lists and Internet based discussion forums. http://www.eurongos.org

Countdown 2015 EuropeAlong with 9 other consortium partners, DSW is a member of Countdown 2015 Europe, a partnership of European SRH organisations campaigning for increased funding for reproductive health supplies and the acheivement of the health MDGs. Karen Hoehn, DSW's Director of International Advocacy, sits on the Steering Committee.
International Partnership for Microbicides
Women are at the heart of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, representing nearly half of the 40 million people worldwide currently infected with the virus. The use of male condoms, the most widespread protection against contracting HIV/AIDS during intercourse, depends upon the man’s consent.
The International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM), founded in 2002, recognizes that women urgently need access to safe, effective and self-controlled HIV-prevention options at affordable prices. Microbicides, i.e. gels or cremes, which are applied to the vagina and substantially, minimize the risk of contracting an HIV infection through sexual intercourse, promise to help fulfil these aims. IPM believes that the accelerated development of a safe and effective microbicide product is achievable.
As a partner of IPM, DSW helps raise awareness on microbicides by working with the German media as well as key decision makers. http://www.ipm-microbicides.org

The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health was launched in September 2005, representing an unprecedented collaboration of the world's leading maternal, newborn and child health advocates.
The Partnership's vision is to intensify action, globally and nationally, to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality and morbidity through universal coverage of essential care. VENRO, the Association of German Development non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), is the umbrella organisation of independent and faith-based NGOs working in the fields of development co-operation, emergency assistance, development education, and advocacy. AKME (Working Group for Medical Development Cooperation)
The Working Group for Medical Development Cooperation (AKME - Arbeitskreis medizinische Entwicklungszusammenarbeit) is an informal and voluntary association of approximately 100 representatives of German institutions working in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. Members include the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and its implementing agencies as well as relevant university departments. The members of the Working Group deal with current issues regarding medical development cooperation and health promotion.
Since 2006, the German Foundation for World Population (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung - DSW) has held the rotating AKME secretariat. In this role, DSW is in charge of organising two annual symposia at different locations. The Working Group serves as a platform for information exchange and promotes the close consultation of its members in vital matters concerning medical development cooperation. In addition to this, AKME articulates recommendations for its member organisations in the field of medicine and health care systems.
The Working Group for Medical Development Cooperation (AKME) was founded in the mid 1970s by Prof. Hans Jochen Diesfeld, a professor emeritus of tropical hygiene and public health care at the University of Heidelberg (Germany).
